Pavlov’s Dogs versus Herman's Germans in a fierce infantry engagement

As dawn broke over the dug in Germans they awoke to the sound of massed artillery fire pounding their positions. Successive lines of defences were shaken badly as the allied forces poured forwards hours of flames scouring the Axis defenders from their bunkers and trench lines.

The Allies pushed relentlessly on, a substantial minefield slowing but not stopping them. In the end it was all too much for the Axis forces who were forced to relinquish the defensive position in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds.

267th Grenadier Regiment versus A Coy, 7th (LI) Para Bn in a fierce infantry engagement

War Diary 267th Grenadier Regiment:
Elements of the 267th Gr Regt were tasked with acting as a garrison for a small village which held a key crossroads. This crossroads would allow German units that are in contact with the Allies a safe corridor through which to fall back if required.

The platoon, led a 1st Leutnant and consisting of 4 rifle squads and supported by an MMG team, took up defensive positions in the village. Contact was made with British Airborne troops who engaged a patrolling squad in a firefight and then attempted an assault. The British were defeated in a bloody close combat in the ruins of a house.
Other British squads, supported by an MMG team of their own, fought their way into the village from numerous directions. The British training and aggression won them several assaults, allowing them to capture two objectives.
The German defenders were how split and were suffering from casualties. The tactical situation was decided to be unwinnable and the German forces broke contact and retreated leaving the British with a hard won victory
