"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force: You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months."
Phase 1 of our gargantuan campaign has come to a close - you've all shown great courage and heroism in fighting your battles, making sure the landing forces have a snowball's chance in hell of surviving on those beaches.
If you've been playing our official scenarios, you'll have followed the exploits of commandos on their intelligence-gathering mission, and one of the Combined Operations Pilotage Parties on their fraught survey of Omaha beach. Because of this, the Allied forces have had more time to equip their assault troops with flamethrowers and Bangalore torpedoes.
In the skies overhead, allied photo-reconnaissance flights have made some headway over the landing grounds, but they have taken significant casualties in the process.
Axis tanks have made some headway pushing through to their assembly areas, and stand ready to counter-attack the invasion beaches.
Allied motor torpedo boat crews have gained valuable experience transporting commandos up and down the Atlantic Wall, which they can put to good use in the coming invasion!
Successful commando operations and aerial reconnaissance provide vital intelligence on the beaches.
This leads to the following special rules for battles fought in Phase 2:
Allied Players may take an additional flamethrower team. This team is not free, but one more flamethrower team can be taken than in Allied armies than the usual maximum.
Axis Players may take an additional self-propelled gun. This SPG is not free, but can be taken in addition to those normally allowed.
Allied Players can have either Seasoned Pilots or Top Cover cards in addition to any others.
Axis Players can have either Wall of Lead or Head on Attack cards in addition to any others.
Allied Players may upgrade the crew of one small ship for free. A small ship's crew can be upgraded from Inexperienced to Regular or from Regular to Veteran.
The above benefits are per game, not per player or per platoon. So if there are multiple players or platoons on one side, the benefit is still only gained once.
Players entitled to a benefit do not have to take advantage of that benefit - it is their choice whether to do so.
