A German SS detachment attempted to capture a British officer at his forward position. They disabled the lone Churchill that was dug into a defensive line, but their infantry support was wiped out by a ferocious British counter attack as even the British mortar teams charged the SS and beat them down in a bloody melee. The surviving German Panzer retreated after taking mortar fire. The German tank commander did not realize that the pounding on his turret was little more than an artillery observer beating on the hatch.
